Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft Review
Well, I’ve been an avid Graphic Novel reader for years, but haven’t really taken the time to write any reviews of books I’ve read. This is mostly due to the fact that it takes time to write a review, and I don’t have a lot of it. However, I was suddenly motivated to write something up, and Locke & Key is such a great series that I felt I should recommend it. The series is written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez.
The first book, Welcome to Lovecraft, introduces you to the main characters of the book which mostly includes the Locke family. The story revolves mostly around Kinsey, Tyler and Bode Locke, the kids in the story. Something terrible happens to them, tearing their family apart and forces them to move to their Father’s home town of Lovecraft: This is where the mystery begins.
The series is very character-driven, and is primarily written like a mystery, always raising more questions. The graphics and themes are very mature – this is not your typical kids comic book.
This book had me totally hooked, and I bought the second book, “Head Games”, right afterwards. Give this novel a chance, you won’t regret it.
