Affliction Shirts with Asian Influences

Posted by the dood on Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Possibly due to my asian heritage, I am drawn to the new Affliction stuff that has the asian influences in it.. and the stuff looks sweet.

I bought the scroll t-shirt a while back and now with the new Affliction Red Label line, they are putting out some seriously killer prints! Word is that these are also Limited Edition shirts. Check out the new Horiyoshi III T-shirt:

The other one that has been catching my eye is the Affliction Blue Samurai Zip up Hoodie. I really love this one:

What i really like about Affliction clothing is that they can pull of the skulls and the samurai’s without looking like the cheap stuff you see at Wal-mart, or looking too tacky. A lot of Me-Too brands out there like the stuff at Bootlegger like “Miami Ink” and other better ones like “InkSlingers” out there are totally ripping off the Affliction and Ed Hardy stuff that is really popular right now.

Without the same level of work that goes into making the shirts distressed and soft these brands try to pull off the same style, but simply don’t cut it if you ask me. I still favour the local store District Clothing for my purchases, and they’ve recently picked up Rock and Republic, unforunately I am between sizes so they don’t really fit me. I’m still waiting on a local store to pick up the Affliction denim!

Don’t forget to check out the new Red Label stuff from Affliction!

American Gangster – Good as they say?

I don’t know, but I don’t think so.

Watched this movie with several friends a couple nights ago, and It was a bit disappointing. Not because it was a bad movie, but because there was so much hype surrounding it that my expectations were way up there.

Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington, directed by Ridley Scott. The acting was first rate, and the directing was not bad either, but the way the story was put together, perhaps this is the director’s fault, was somewhat mediocre. The movie seemed to focus on too many things at the same time, in the end not focusing on anything at all. It should not have been callled American Gangster, it should have been a documentary called “How I built a Drug Empire, and lost it”.

This movie has almost no action, so don’t expect Gladiator set in modern times. It takes place in the late 60’s and early 70’s and follows Denzel Washington, who plays Frank Lucas, the biggest importer of high-grade Heroin in New York city at the time, supplying the mafia along with many others – His road to the top, and everything afterwards.

I give the movie about 3.5 stars out of 5 if i have to. Decent flick, but certainly not the suspensful action-drama that I was expecting.

Toastmaster and something else

Posted by frank on Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Thanks for the welcome dood.

I have never really liked public speaking and it is definitely not a weird thing: the most feared single thing in this world for most people is public speaking, death comes next.

As fate would have it, in order to continue with my career path, the head honchos of the company made Toastmaster as a requirement, we would not even be considered if we don’t take it. So here I go, the one thing that I know is beneficial but have been putting off for the past years has finally come back to haunt me.

So tonight was my second time at the Toastmaster and it wasn’t really that bad compared to the first one, participants were very encouraging and supporting so that definitely helped me becoming comfortable with something that I dread going. Tonight I made a short speech and I was pretty damn quick on my feet and my speech was able to get some great responses and then of course there was some positive feedbacks along with areas of possible improvements.

The program is six months and I just can’t wait to finish…it would be nice. Though I am beginning to not detest going as much now and know that I will probably miss the people once I am done but as of right now, I just can’t wait, HA.

Another thing that I did today that I have been putting off for three months is that I went back to the gym and DAMN it felt good. So good that I am not going to write about it, you will have to get back into something that you have been procrastinating for too long to know what I mean 😉

Have a good one boys & girls.

Let’s welcome Frank to the dood.ca Team

I should take the time now to introduce Frank to the dood.ca team. You can check out Frank on the profile page here. Frank brings a lot of deeper thought to the team. While I may be outgoing and loud, Frank can be introspective and his one-liners often profound and thought-provoking.

Rob has not been posting for a while because Rob has lost his internet access from not paying bills. See, that’s why Rob is always trying to make a buck with something on the internet. Guess he ran outta time 😮

Afflicition, Christian Audigier and friends.

I have started to become a clothing label whore. I used to be many many years ago, but kind of toned down my spending and concentrated on much more constructive hobbies such as knife collecting and swiss made automatic watches, but now the clothing bug has hit me hard again… and in a much more agressive way. Gone are the days of Gap and American Eagle.

Brands that I have become extremely addicted to include Christian Audigier, Affliction, Armani Exchange, Energie and True Religion. I am not a rich man, but this weekend, in addition to buying the lady a $400 wool and cashmere jacket from Aritzia, I bought an Affliction shirt, Affliction polo, Armani Exchange shirt and Aldo Shoes – That’s a lot of money for me! If I did not buy her the Jacket, I would have ended up buying the Christian Audigier Gold Vines hoody from Boys’Co…. I am still regretting not buying it, but at around $375 after taxes, it was probably best left at the store.

Just to give you a taste of what we’re talking about here:

Is that hoodie not absolutely HOT? One downside is that you might be mistaken for a drug dealer. Embroidered Vines along the whole thing, rhinestones ont he back CA logo, and some crazy stuff going on the sleeves makes for a hell of a crazy hoody.

I was at Coi Clothing in Nanaimo here, and they got some new Ed Hardy stuff in. I like a lot of Ed Hardy’s stuff, but this one didn’t have me completely.. it was a Cashmere and Wool hoody in black with the Don Ed Hardy Tiger on the back. Made in China… for $450. Nice, but didn’t quite hit me like the other hoodie, and cost more.

*sigh*

At least the Affliction Shirts were only $80-100 each 🙂

I think I might need to pay a visit to ebay…
