Lately I’ve been craving some real fresh made popcorn in a pot. I decided to make some because that stuff is always tastier than microwave popcorn, and you can mix in a caramel/sugar sauce and bake them so its super tasty.
I’m not always into making my own stuff from scratch, but this is good stuff. Try it!

You will really like these guys. Seems like Ben Moody is continuing to help some female vocalists mimick the Amy Lee vocal style that was popularized by Evanescence. Youtube is broken right now so I’m going to embed a MySpace live video. Since Ben Moody was one of the main writers on the first Evanescence album, you’ll hear a return the that original sound that made them popular, and is no longer on their Second Album. Ben Moody is a talented guy and arguably brings to the table a more original Evanescence sound with We Are the Fallen than the current roster at Evanescence. Enjoy.
In light of all my complaints, I decided that I should let others know that I in fact DO have good customer service experiences. I guess pointing out all my negative experiences really makes me seem like a negative person.
Where I shop for knives and swords: Warriors and Wonders! Its a shop on Cambie and 17th-ish in Vancouver… and run by a guy named Jay and someone who appears to be his brother helping him out on Saturdays. This shop used to be open all week but because his online business has become so busy, he is only open Fridays and Saturdays now. He carries Benchmade, Spyderco, Emerson, Cold Steel, Kershaw and many other big name blades. Benchmade is his latest acquisition.
If you’re a sword person, he carries all the stuff from Cold Steel and Hanwei, and a lot of them. The thing is, Jay buys more Spyderco Product than most of the stores in the US, so he has more inventory and more stock of the Sprint Run stuff than any other seller in Canada at least.
Jay always jokes about being off-beat and listening to heavy-metal in the store and being opinionated, but the thing is he’s great with customers and his prices are fantastic. I’ve worked with him to price match a large Katana and got it several hundred dollars cheaper because a store in Ontario was selling them for cheaper. I’ve purchased about 8-10 knives from him and he’s a Top notch guy to deal with.
Thanks all you haters out there that complain that all I do is complain! This is for you guys 🙂
I have a modest shoe collection, and while I wouldn’t call it a collection, I use it for lack of a better term. I grabbed four pairs of shoes from my 10 or so pairs of dress shoes, and decided to do a small write up on them. The shoes are: Allen Edmonds Hastings, Allen Edmonds Lambert, Walter Steiger Wingtip and John Varvatos Wingtip.
Allen Edmonds Hastings
I really like this shoe. Allen Edmonds makes a great shoe, probably one of the best American-made shoes on the market, especially given their modest cost. While I like English and Italian made shoes, I would be happy with a closet full of AE’s as well. The Hastings is a bit stiffer than other AE shoes that I’ve owned, and is a bit less comfortable. The broguing along the sides looks a bit funny intially, but when worn the shoe looks fantastic. As with most Allen Edmonds these are Goodyear welted.
Allen Edmonds Lambert
The Lambert was my first pair of Allen Edmonds shoes. They are very versatile since they are basic oxfords, with a pebble grain pattern. The pattern does flatten a bit over time, especially with repeated polishing. Another thing I like about Allen Edmonds shoes is their wide range of sizes. With my wide feet, they are the easiest to find a perfect size for me.
Walter Steiger Wingtips
I picked these up for 70% off at a local store, which still worked out to a pretty pricey shoe since they retailed at $950. They are handmade in Italy and probably the tougest pair of shoes I have owned. They are very well cobbled shoes with amazing detail in the wingtips and broguing. Leather is a cordovan color with full leather soles.
John Varvatos Wingtips
I dig the Varvatos style, and these are great Italian made JV’s. Recent Varvatos stuff is no longer made in Italy as these are, so quality has suffered. These wingtips are more casual in their appears and go great with a pair of jeans as well as a summer suit. Very comfortable and flexible shoes, with tremendously soft calf leather uppers. Retail on these shoes is somewhere int he $350 range.

I’ve purchased a lot of Ties from a lot of brands, and the one brand that consistently has unique classy yet playful designs printed on some of the best silk available is Hermes. It started when I was given an Hermes Tie as a gift, and I really liked the soft hand of the silk, the small repeated patterns, and vibrant colors. No other brand out there makes a Tie like Hermes.
Balenciaga Pour Homme actually used to make some very comparable ties to the Hermes ones, but I don’t believe that they still do. Most of the other brands can be inconsistent in their ties. One of the things you need to watch out for when collecting and buying Hermes Ties is the fakes out there. The best guide I have found for this is the Ebay Guide for Spotting Hermes Fakes. Read it, its a good read.
